Aksharodaya

Education is a continuous process of learning in pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge gives people power to live and support ourselves. Lack of education is like living in darkness, in a deplorable plight. Aksharodaya is our little step against the prevailing darkness of illiteracy.

Sumanth (June 2009 – May 2011)

TrueIndia sponsored education of a boy named Sumanth from Warangal, a town in India for his intermediate education. He presently finished his Intermedidate (+12) and has plans to pursue engineering. As always, we believe that transparency and honesty go together; hence the details of funds used are posted on our google-groups.

Expressing her gratitude, Sumanth's mother says: (translated to english) "After the death of my husband I started working for a private hospital as a receptionist. I have two kids and earn Rs.1500 per month. With the income I earn, I was sure I cannot afford his education but because of Sumanth's interest and enthusiasm, I started asking money from my relatives and friends but not everyone in this world has the heart to contribute. I am really indebted to you all for coming forward and sponsoring my kid. In return this poor mother can give only lots of love and blessings to all those people behind this community".

Sumanth says "I promise everyone that I will really work hard and will make you all feel proud. I also promise to be a True Indian and will also contribute to my society." TrueIndia would continue this effort, by extending it to as many deserving children as possible in future. We believe that one smile could be the silver lining for many bright smiles in future.

Make a wish (August 2009 to Present)

'Birthday' - For the world it might be just one other day but for every kid it is the most awaited day of the year; the day they feel they are very special to their family and friends. But if we think over, is it the same for children on the streets or in orphanages? Surely, there are many out there who don't even know their birthdays.

TrueIndia stepped forward to celebrate birthdays of those children who can't afford to wish. TrueIndia started off 'Make a wish' in August 2009 with a plan of celebrating birthdays of the children at Divya Disha homes at the end of every month with a nice cake, few gifts and lots of love. Divya Disha is voluntary organization that had been working towards child protection since 1987. Activities are conducted at Divya Disha during the visits of TrueIndia volunteers every month to encourage and develop the creativity, motor and interpersonal skills among the kids. 'Make a wish'- our effort to light up little faces- later also served as a platform for unveiling talents of the children in Divya Disha homes.

TrueIndia completed Third year Anniversary of 'Make a Wish' project on July 29th 2012. On this occasion talent competitions were organized by TrueIndia volunteers.

Acknowledging TrueIndia’s work DivyaDisha representative Dr. Ch. Ramesh babu says- "This generous gesture and support from you has become a source of joy and happiness for the children of both homes as they cherish their birthday and your association with gratitude."

Natural Calamity Funding- Floods (October 2009)

In October 2009, the state of Andhra Pradesh faced worst ever floods in the near history of 100 years. Hundreds of villages have completely drowned in the floods. With the help of our sponsors, associate charity organizations at the local, regional, and global levels, we targeted to serve Sherpally village, Mahboobnagar district, which was completely submerged for a few days under Krishna floods.

The Sherpally Village - Most of the villagers are landless labourers who were without livelihood for the previous ten days. They were spending their time completely on repairing their houses, removing slush and trying to salvage whatever remained after the flood waters receded. On the night of the flood, most of the villagers fled the village, they did not have time to lock their houses or pick up even an extra pair of clothing. Our team delivered Rice, vegetables, grocery, ladles, biscuit packets, and notebooks at their village.

TrueIndia is glad that our collaborative efforts with Sphoorti and other associate organizations (Manavatha, HARD & VASSORD), had immediate and longer-term impact on thousands of lives.

Contributions towards Aalambana Foundation and Divya Disha Foundation

Aalambana is a non-profit organization with a mission to impact the lives of less privileged children, enabling them to maximise their potential and change their lives.
With the money raised from phase XIV, TI distributed stationary for the children and adopted education of a girl child Mamatha who is pursuing her 10th standard for the year 2011-2012.

Divya Disha is a voluntary organization working towards the empowerment of children and Young people since 1987.
For the academic year 2011-2012, TrueIndia with all your support took the responsibility and contributed the kid's fees and stationary to Aalambana foundation and channelized sponsorships for the education of 8 children in Divya Disha foundation.
